Kink Positive
“The erotic mind is not afraid of breaking taboos, of making connections between disparate elements, of mixing arousal with fear or pain.”
— Esther Perel
I believe in providing inclusive and affirming care that honours the diverse range of human experiences, including those related to sexuality and intimacy. Being kink-informed is essential in creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore and express their authentic selves without fear of judgment or stigma.
In my practice, I have had the privilege of working with individuals and couples across a spectrum of kink identities and practices. This includes clients engaged in power exchange dynamics, 24/7 relationships, swinging, sex parties, kink parties, play partnerships, pet/owner dynamics, furries, BDSM exploration, D/s (Dominance/submission), as well as various kinks and fetishes. Each of these dynamics and practices comes with its own unique set of challenges, desires, and boundaries.
Being kink-informed allows me to navigate these complexities with sensitivity and understanding, addressing issues such as negotiation of consent, communication within power dynamics, managing boundaries, and processing experiences of shame or stigma. By staying informed about the diverse array of kink identities and practices, I can provide competent and effective therapy that meets the specific needs of my clients.
However, it's important to emphasise that being kink-informed does not mean prioritising kink over vanilla relationships or diminishing the validity of more traditional forms of intimacy. Just as every individual is unique, so too are their sexual preferences and identities. Vanilla relationships are just as complex, meaningful, and beautiful as kink relationships, and I hold space for individuals to explore and celebrate their own unique flavour of intimacy.
In conclusion, being kink-informed is a vital aspect of providing affirming therapy that embraces the diversity of human sexuality. By adopting a kink-positive attitude while also honouring the beauty of vanilla relationships, I strive to create a therapeutic environment where all clients feel respected, understood, and empowered to navigate their sexual and relational journeys with authenticity and self-acceptance.
